How do I create a GDPR compliant Cookie Consent Banner?

According to the GDPR, users must allow website-visitors the ability to change their cookie preferences at any time. The visitor should have the choice on which non-essential cookies are used during the visit. The default should be that the visitor is opted-out of non-essential cookies. No consent is required for essential cookies.

Easier said than done. The easiest is to get whoever designed your website to fix this for you. He/she should be able to fix in a couple of hours, they will have their own tools for this, unless your business is based outside of the EEA. If it was you that created your website, then good luck! If you are using Wordpress, you are in luck, below is a YouTube Video explaining how to add a GDPR compliant cookie banner in Wordpress.

There is a choice of services out there which can be used, the problem is that most cost money. If you are a small business to pay €9 per month for a cookie banner /preference centre may feel like an overkill, but it really depends. There is one product which lets you create a single cookie banner for a single domain for free and that is Termly. This is the service which Privasee is using so you can check it out direct. There is even a Manage Cookie Preferences button in the bottom-left corner of the footer section.

The tool itself is the most simple evaluated, and many cookie banners were evaluated over 2 days. Most were complex, or didn't work on the platform Privasee was using. Termly was very straightforward, it was free, and even created a cookie policy in the bargain!
